Dietary Department Gives Back

Date
August 16, 2018

Motivated by goodwill and the importance of nutrition, several staff members of Westview Health Care Center’s Dietary department volunteered their time and culinary skills to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic, CT on Saturday, August 11, 2018. The 4 person team prepared, cooked and served a lasagna dinner complete with fresh salad, breadsticks and dessert to nearly 100 individuals and families in the Willimantic area.

Nathan Mitchell, Westview’s Director of Dietary Services accompanied the team, motivated to provide the same high quality of service to members of our community as they do with Westview residents and patients. “We’re happy to be of service to some of the people in our area who may not have the means or ability to provide a hot and nutritious meal for themselves or their families,” Mitchell remarked. “I’m honored to be part of a workplace that supports community outreach opportunities such as this and extremely proud of my crew for pulling this all together.”

The Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic is a donation and grant-based non-profit organization that provides food and access to basic services to individuals and families in Windham county. Aside from offering meals 7 days a week, the organization also offers an Emergency Food Pantry where individuals within the community can receive groceries to take home.

“Individually, it is sometimes difficult to feel like we can make a significant effect within the life of others, but collectively our efforts can make a world of difference,” stated David T. Panteleakos, Westview Administrator. “We’re honored to share the compassion and talents of our staff with the Covenant Soup Kitchen and extremely appreciative of the essential services that their organization provides to our community.”
