Press Release
Employee of the Month

Date
June 28, 2019

This June, Westview Health Care Center has selected Alana Krasley as the Employee of the Month. Alana is a resident of Killingly, Connecticut, and she exhibits a great deal of the kindness, compassion, and dedication that natives to this area are known for. Not long after graduating from Killingly High School in 2017, she completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program at Quinebaug Valley Community College. By October of that year she joined Westview’s team as a CNA.

The dedication it required to start earning her way through the medical field is a characteristic that remains strong with Alana as she plans to advance towards a degree as a Dental Hygienist. Her passion to help others through medical fields began from an early understanding of empathy and the value of human connection. Born in Pennsylvania but raised in Eastern Connecticut, Alana has great appreciation for the community around her. She also has a connection to Smithfield, Rhode Island through her membership at Awakening Church.

Music and piano playing are among her creative interests, and there’s good reason why. With career aspirations in medicine, there is obviously a lot of math and science that she continues to add to her knowledge base; so Alana regards the abstract creativity provided by musical instrumentation to be a relaxing alternate facet of her life. In the last few years she began snowboarding with friends and is clearly excited about this exhilarating form of recreation. She also enjoys spending time with her mother, Jessica Hartz, and most recently, with her half pit-bull, half chocolate lab puppy named GiGi.

As a first shift CNA, Alana is responsible for coordinating and cooperating with parts of the morning wave of activity that begins at 7 AM. Of course, activity at the Dayville Nursing facility starts even earlier in the day, but when the Nursing Department’s first shift arrive, it is in anticipation of the increase in activity that precipitates thereafter. Alana takes great pride in being a part of this sun-up contingent of caregivers and finds pleasure in being busy. This is yet another great quality she possesses.

Throughout the 103-bed skilled nursing facility the activities of daily living maintain a fast pace all day long. When it is time to be relieved by the second shift nursing staff she can be seen explaining notes and remarks about the patients in her care—giving this extra effort to ensure continuity of care. Alana gives the impression that she would happily carry out her responsibilities to the best of her abilities without anyone noticing at all. But in this instance, she is undoubtedly inspired by this acknowledgment from her colleagues.

“Westview’s constant recognition and praise to its employees is why everyone here strives to do their very best. It’s very rewarding to be acknowledged for all the hard work that goes into making Westview a top-rated facility. I am very honored to work at Westview and to receive this award.”

It is not only Alana’s fellow nursing staff members that have noticed her motivated approach at Westview, but the Charge Nurses, Department Heads, and Administrator David Panteleakos have all become aware of her dedication to her role. “Alana is such a wonderful addition to our amazing team of primary caregivers here at Westview,” stated Panteleakos. “Her kindness, compassion and dedication to her residents is what makes Alana the perfect fit here at Westview.
