A talented group of young musicians from The Rectory School in Pomfret, Connecticut serenaded the patients and residents of Westview Health Care Center on Monday, January 20, 2020 with a musical performance as part of their Community Service Day in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Accompanied by educators: Clancy Martin, Interim Musical Director and Erin Billiard, History and English Teacher, five students forewent their day off from school and instead traveled amid a bitterly cold January morning to delight and bring musical warmth to the kind and grateful folks residing and recovering at the Dayville health care center.
The Rectory School students exhibited Dr. King’s sentiments of kindness, cooperation and the sharing of ourselves in a positive and impactful manner towards a “beloved community”. These values were not only apparent in the groups ability to perform their selected songs in unison and harmony, but also in their generous capacity to share a little about themselves — an act of impromptu public speaking that was genuinely appreciated by their audience.
The students performed a number of classical pieces including: All Through the Night, Minuet and Bourree by Johann Sebastion Bach and Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus.
Louise Taylor, Westview’s Recreation Director, added, “On behalf of Westview, we are grateful for the efforts of these students from The Rectory School who chose to selflessly share their talents and themselves with us today. Their music was truly a beautiful gift to all of us.”
