90th Birthday Celebration

      Over the weekend our Westview residents were treated to a sunny and symphonic outdoor concert in celebration of a resident's 90th birthday. The family of this resident contacted a local band that they knew of—specifically, Ashford, CT's Babcock Cornet Band—and coordinated this event with Westview staff so that it could be enjoyed by many listeners at our facility.

      The musicians played several classic big-band standards, a few medleys (including a Broadway suite), and other hits from the early radio era. Before the last pieces were played, the band directly acknowledged our celebrated resident by playing "Happy Birthday" for them as everyone joined in signing. Throughout all of these musical numbers, across all of the ages of the audience, toes were tapping and lyrics were being hummed on this gorgeous afternoon.

      The Babcock Cornet Band's history dates back to April 1775; making them the oldest continuously-active band in the United States. With almost 250 years of musical history in our area, we were privileged to host them and delighted that their legacy could be a part of one of our own resident's milestone moment. We are especially appreciative that so many of our residents were able to share in this celebration.
