Press Release
Veterans Day Tribute

Date
November 12, 2021

Many thanks are in order for the dual Veterans Day tributes that occurred at Westview Health Care Center and Westview Commons this year. To honor the populations of Veterans at the two locations, a morning ceremony occurred at Westview Health Care Center, and was then held again in the afternoon at Country Living at Westview Commons. We greatly appreciate all who contributed to these significant occasions.

We begin by saying another resounding thank you to all of this nation’s proud service Veterans—past and present—who make freedom and liberty possible in the United States of America through their selfless dedication towards these pursuits.

We thank the dispatch who joined us from American Legion Post 21 for bringing the colors for us to pledge our allegiance, and furthermore, for bringing a sense of pomp and circumstance to our gathering with their dignified presentation. Thank you to Post 21’s Commander Charles “Chuck” Crowley, Chaplain Charles “Chuck” Lalumiere, Robert Kelly, Thomas Gaylord, Michael Barta, and Post Adjutant Georgette Rohrig for joining us.

We thank Michael Palladino who masterfully played the somber, yet sweet, bugle call of “Taps” for all of the listeners to have a moment of reflection.

We thank Louise Taylor and Westview Commons resident Pamela Rosenlund for reading the poem titled “It is the Veteran” at Westview Health Care Center and Westview Commons, respectively, and for giving us a thoughtful contemplation with these verses.

We thank former USO performer and stellar soloist Val Rogers for singing from her endless catalog of American music. In her performances, Val and her talented pianist Bill Groth were certain to include renditions of national standards, the individual service branch anthems, and other radio classics from corresponding times of American conflicts. All the while, throughout the emotional journey that her set-lists can provide, Val engages the audience with her magnificent voice, wonderful expressions, and detailed introductions to her musical selections.

We thank the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Westview Health Care Center and the Activity Coordinators at Westview Commons for their efforts to ensure that these ceremonies contained the proper blend of patriotic protocol and lively liberty.

We repeat our heartfelt thanks to the American service men and service women who give Veterans Day its profound meaning. To the Veterans we are fortunate to honor at our two locations and to those we may never have the privilege of meeting: we thank you with our deepest gratitude.
